“In Search of Gay Jesus”
(A Film Review)

Acclaimed director Arturo Masturbanni’s lastest epic is sure to be a controversial hit.  Starring famed ACTUP organizer and gay spokessman Larry Kramer as Jesus in his debut Hollywood appearance, the film features Mel Brooks as Pontius Pilate, Rodney Dangerfield as Joseph, and Cher Bono as Mary, with cameo appearances by Mel Gibson, Chuck Norris, and Clint Eastwood as very tough (and very gay)sadomasochistic Roman centurions.
Half slapstick and half homoerotic nightmare, I.S.O.G.J. is sure to please devotee’s of Signore Masturbanni’s bizarre earlier efforts (“Oral Sex Kittens from Radio Galaxy NC24673”, Sperm Fetish Babes from Hell”, and of course his first notorious blockbuster “A Wad Too Far”, his moving and outrageous biography of Porn Star John Holmes). The script loosely follows Pier Pasolini’s “The Gospel According to St.Matthew,” but the often violent explicit sex scenes (Jesus is “fisted” on his cross by all three Roman centurions), and strange and historically inaccurate drug usage (the 12 apostles appear to do little besides mainline heroin), mean parents will have to be careful letting pre-schoolers peek at this video. The movie has been approved by the New York City Board of Education for sixth grade thru high school as part of the “Cultural Diversity 2000” program accounced earlier this year by the same body.
Now showing at the Pissoir (East Village) and the Rikers Island Cinematheque.  Unrated, but nasty.
